Trump launches another attack on immigrants

Oct 08, 2024

Washington [US], October 8: Former President Donald Trump said on October 7 that illegal immigrants who committed murder had "bad genes."
CNN reported on October 7 that Mr. Trump was accused of providing misleading information about immigration and crime to attack Vice President Kamala Harris . He said Ms. Harris "allowed people to come across the open border, including 13,000 people who were murderers."
"You know, with a killer, I believe it's in their genes. We have a lot of bad genes in this country right now," Trump said in an interview on The Hugh Hewitt Show.
This is a continuation of the Republican presidential candidate's attack on illegal immigrants , and he has pledged to carry out mass deportations if elected. Mr. Trump has made curbing illegal immigration a central part of his 2024 campaign message.
Last year, he said undocumented immigrants were "poisoning the blood of America." He also falsely claimed recently that Haitian immigrants were eating pets in Springfield , Ohio.
The White House condemned Mr Trump's remarks on October 6. "This type of language is hateful, inappropriate and has no place in our country," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said.
Also on October 6, Ms. Kamala Harris criticized Mr. Trump for giving false and misleading information about Hurricane Helene .
Trump said on October 4 that $1 billion had been "stolen" from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to be used for illegal immigrants. FEMA Director Deanne Criswell said the agency's claim that funds went directly to immigrants or to neglected Republican states was "absolutely ridiculous and false."
"You are entitled to these resources, everyone is entitled to them, and it is important that people apply for help," Harris said.
The vice president also criticized Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for not taking calls after Hurricane Helene. DeSantis said he did not know Ms. Harris had called.
